Happy Memorial Day Weekend!
|
I'm free! I was recently given an official release from my total knee replacement doctor/surgeon. After x-rays he said every looks fine and "it looks like it should." Whew! After one full year of two operations and ensuing physical therapy after each I can now go for walks, hikes and even ride my bike. The biggest challenge was climbing stairs, which is a bit of a wonky pursuit, at this time. I am getting better, though. *******

• New Call for Entry, "The Horse" (image above, Helen K. Garber): As you might guess, there are a few people around New Mexico who love horses, so much so that it has come to my attention that in our 10 years of publication, we have never had an issue dedicated to these life-affirming, family oriented, four-legged friends. The July/August 2024 issue of Shadow & Light Magazine will feature nothing but horses! More details are being formulated at this time, but if you would like to enter, you can click below to sign up for a low $25/15 image, fee. By the way, you don't have to live in New Mexico to enter! Guest Jurors are Helen K. Garber (image, above) and Tony Bonanno.

Still alive! Sigma's most outrageous lens lives another day
After a conversation with Sigma USA, Petapixel has kindly pointed out that the "Bigma" is still in production as a special order product.
|
"This is a special order lens," Sigma told the outlet. "It is not discontinued."
|
Good news for anyone still hoping to drop $26,000 on the Sigma APO 200-500mm f/2.8 EX DG – which remains arguably the most audacious lens currently on the market.

Lessons Learned from Photo Critiques

The Best Online Photo Printing Services
Suburban America used to contain roughly one 1-hour photo lab for every 500 people. Little kiosks were sprinkled across strip mall parking lots like pepper on a bad steak. Then came the digital camera, and suddenly there was no film to develop. Those kiosks abruptly disappeared, taking our photo printing options with them. Developing film isn't commonplace today, but the desire to have our favorite photos on the wall has never faded. In place of the 1-hour photo booths, there are endless online printing services, most of which produce far better results than those kiosks ever did. Unfortunately, some of them are truly awful at printing your images.

“There is a creative fraction of a second when you are taking a picture. Your eye must see a composition or an expression that life itself offers you, and you must know with intuition when to click the camera. That is the moment the photographer is creative. Oop! The Moment! Once you miss it, it is gone forever.”
