At 80 I am finally becoming much more aware of the intricacies of being a photographer: tinting, lens settings, etc. Who knew... a renaissance? Probably not but it is good to venture into new territory. Which new territory have you ventured into, lately. At the urging of Kevin Black I am working on perfecting a gilding process, which has me somewhat befuddled. More, later...

If you have been following me for any amount of time, you know I like to keep things simple. For this call-for-entry all you will need to do for now is click on the button to enter. • Just as the summer is slowly but very hotly sliding along in Albuquerque, I am looking forward to getting back to teaching for University of New Mexico, continuing Education. I will, again, be teaching "Developing You Creative Vision" and "Poetry: In Your Own Voice." Sign ups are available now.

• I am really looking forward to visiting my two sons and their families at the first of September. They live in the Seattle area, so it should be much cooler that the 100 +/— temperatures we have been experiencing!
• As many of you know, I have a newer venture, which is a zine. It is something I have been thinking about for quite some time and now it is out and about available for purchase. The first two issues are out and I am now prepping files for #3. https://timandersonstudio.com/observations/

Recipe For Black & White Landscape Success
|
Landscapes taken in colour are great but if you convert or shoot your landscapes in mono, textures shapes, patterns etc. appear more prominently and have a stronger impact on the viewer. Mono's not something that works for every shot, as we'll explain alongside a few other tips that'll help make your mono work shine.

1. Depth Of Field
As with all landscape subjects, before taking your shot, know if you want a shallow or wide depth of field. Wider is good when you have several points of interest throughout the image as you need everything in the frame to be sharp.

These photographers receive the "Hasselblad Master" title, carrying the distinction throughout their careers, along with a 100-megapixel medium format camera, two XCD lenses, and a €5,000 creative fund, for their work across categories including Landscape, Portrait, and Project//21.

Mastering Street & Golden Hour Photography
If you’re passionate about street photography, you already know that being present in the right place is only half the battle. Timing is everything; there’s no better time to capture striking urban moments than during golden hour.
|
But what exactly is golden hour? This coveted time occurs just after sunrise and right before sunset when the sun bathes everything in warm hues of reds, golds, oranges, and yellows. The soft, directional light enhances shadows and textures, making it an ideal setting for dramatic and cinematic golden hour photos. The interplay of light and shadow creates a mood that’s hard to replicate at any other time of day, making it a favorite among photographers looking to add warmth and depth to their images.

Films Every Photographer Should See
The visual is cultivated through visions. It may seem like an oxymoron, but we often tend to overlook the importance of nurturing our ability to see. The perception of experience also stems from our cultural background. And if it's missing, we often fail to understand how to photograph.
|
I believe that cinema in this sense meets this need to nourish and train the gaze of a photographer. And it is with this intention that I first proposed here a personal reading of the film Blow-Up by Michelangelo Antonioni, and now I share a list of films that I recommend to photographers.
