Happy Spring(?), reader!

I gotta tell you that here in Albuquerque, we have having a multitude of blue skies and 60°! I do like it but this is weird. But, hey! The Seattle Seahawks won Super Bowl LV. So, I'll take just about anything, at this time.

Currently, I am working on a project that is very near and dear to me but no details yet, until I have something concrete to show you. You will be first to know.

Color It Red returns for the March/April 2026 issue. This very popular call-for-entry (CFE) is in its 13th appearance. We are bringing this series back because of consistent requests from many of our readers. Entries are already piling up! The deadline is only 10 days away! In my newest venture, the starter, I include short pieces that are inspirational and full of positive vibes, with a nod toward photography and poetry. In the current issue, I chat about motivation and there are a few other pieces that might fuel your creative process. In the section View here, I feature Cole Thompson and his compelling "Misfits" portfolio. Here is a link, if you are interested.

Amazing Winners of HIPA’s “Power”-Themed Photo Contest

Italian photographer Gianluca Gianferrari won the grand prize of the HIPA photography contest for a striking image of Mount Etna's eruption in keeping with the contest's "power" theme. Other notable winners include Hashem Dardowra, who captured human resilience in conflict zones; Deepak Singh Dogra, who highlighted the sun's energy; and Chris Fallows, who captured a black-and-white photo of a majestic parade of elephants.

This is photography's biggest lie – and you've been brainwashed about how to use your camera

Find Your Light

In photography under natural light, like wildlife or landscapes, it’s easy to think that light is one of the variables the photographer cannot influence. And if taken literally, it’s true.

And ultimately, which photographs they prefer to take and select. And so, we come back to the point: even the wildlife or landscape photographer can choose the light in their photographs.

Photography Has Always Had its Tricksters

An exhibition at Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum looks at photo manipulation between 1860 and 1940 — proving that deceptive images are not solely a 21st century problem.

While it is easy to believe that fake images such as the ones that AI can now create or the ones editors have been creating for years on Adobe Photoshop is a modern phenomenon, photo manipulation has in fact been around since the very dawn of photography.
