Dare to be Different With Your Photos

It’s estimated that over two billion photos are uploaded to the internet every day. We are deluged with images.

So if you’re a photographer looking to stand out from the crowd, then going to the same iconic locations, framing up and shooting the same compositions, and looking to emulate the great images you might find from skilled photographers is not what you should do.

You need to dare to be different with your photography – by making the shot in a way people haven’t seen before. If the reaction you want is “Wow!” rather than “Meh,” you need to mix it up.

Divorce finalized: Olympus is now officially OM Digital Solutions

The OIympus sale is now complete and the imaging division is now officially called OM Digital Solutions Corp, and now belongs to Japan Industrial Partners (JIP).

The transfer of ownership was completed on 01 January, and a new company website has been launched. Former Olympus Imaging manager Shigemi Sugimoto is president of the new company.

While no further official clarification has been made regarding the use of the Olympus brand name on products, it is notable that a number of the company's outlets – including Instagram accounts and holdover store pages – are referring to "Olympus PEN" cameras but only to "OM-D" cameras, the latter omitting the Olympus name.

35 Beautiful Examples of Light Painting Photography

Many photos focus on capturing a scene or subject that actually exists. Unless you’re working with photo manipulation, photography tends to be about real things, captured artfully.

One exception to this generalization is light painting. When photographers paint with light, they manipulate the subject rather than editing the photo. Using a slow shutter speed with simple tools like flashlights and light wands, they create scenes from their imagination.

A victory for photographers and other creatives is being celebrated today, one day after President Trump signed into law a bill that includes the Copyright Alternative in Small Claims Enforcement Act (the CASE Act).

Simply put, as the CASE Act becomes law, it can now provide an avenue for photographers and other copyright owners to pursue infringers in small claims court instead of federal court, which has not been a viable option for many independent artists in the past.

Canon’s Exciting New RF Lenses: The 70-200mm f/4 and 50mm f/1.8

Both of these lenses will ship in the first half of December, though they’re currently available for preorder ($1599 USD for the 70-200mm f/4L IS and $199.99 USD for the 50mm f/1.8).

In fact, the 70-200mm f/4 and the 50mm f/1.8 have already garnered something of a reputation, thanks to their top-notch EF equivalents. The EF 70-200mm f/4L IS, for instance, is a high-quality, reasonably-priced option for landscape photographers, amateur portrait photographers, and more – while the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM is just about the handiest Canon lens you can own, combining optical prowess with affordability and compactness.
