When I picked up a Tenba Messenger DNA-13, I was immediately struck by the lightness of the bag, as well as its roominess. Designed to hold a mirrorless camera with 4-5 lenses or a DSLR with 2-3 lenses (up to 70-200mm 2.8), plus flash and accessories, the DNA-13 easily held my equipment: Sony a850 DSLR, 70-200/2.8 lens, 35-70/2.8 lens, and a 13-inch laptop.
My necessities: cell phone, cords, batteries, cards, etc., were not left wanting for comfortable space. I really appreciated where I could place my cell-phone because it was on the outside and very easy to access.
Several years ago, the DNA-13 may not have worked for me because I carried a few more lenses, filters, and flash, along with what was mentioned above.
As it is now I carry much less camera equipment, but I do carry a laptop and a physical notebook for taking notes. The bag is a perfect size for taking care of all my equipment needs, whether that be in the camera department or when I am in my office mode. In that mode, I slip out the padded camera/lens insert and it is ready to carry the laptop/tablet, reference materials and a few protein bars. If I know that I still need a camera, I can slip my Sony a6000 in with an attached small-medium lens.
Once I arrive at a certain destination with the bag across my body, the DNA-13 is so well balanced I can hardly tell I have it on. Some of the biggest pluses are the zippered top flap that makes getting to the inside of the bag quick and efficient. I don’t have to unclip the front flap, lift it up and then pull out a camera.
Everywhere you look there is a small flap with a compartment underneath, either zippered or not. The well-padded strap is strong and comfortable; and there is a Velcro horizontal strap across the back of the bag that allows it to slip over a roller.
This is a very well thought-out bag and will surely see a lot of use, whether as a camera bag or an “office” bag. I’ll bet you could even throw some lunch, a camera, a notebook, and a tire pump in it while you are doing your day job.
You can find out more by checking it out on Amazon. In this photographer’s opinion, the Tenba DNA-13 is a winner. Pick it up as your only bag, or you may even “need” to add it to your collection!
